It is recommended to carefully place the PIR Motion Sensor to prevent false alarms (ie, any detection not caused by an intruder).
It is recommended to install the PIR Motion Sensor in such a way that the PIR Motion Sensor cannot be "seen" from the window. Although the wavelength of the chip's sensitive infrared radiation does not penetrate the glass well, strong infrared sources (such as those from car headlights or daylight) may overload the sensor and cause false alarms.
It is also recommended not to place the PIR Motion Sensor where HVAC vents blow hot or cold air onto the plastic surface covering the windows of the enclosure. Although the emissivity of the air is very low (it emits very little infrared energy), the air blowing on the plastic window cover may change the temperature of the plastic enough to trigger a false alarm.
Sensors are also often designed to "ignore" domestic pets, such as dogs or cats, by setting a higher sensitivity threshold or by ensuring that the floor of the room is not clear.
Since the range of the PIR sensor can reach 10 meters (30 feet), for rooms with only one entrance, it is usually only necessary to place a detector near the entrance. Security systems based on PIR Motion Sensor are also feasible in outdoor security and motion-sensitive lighting; one of their advantages is their low power consumption, which allows them to use solar energy.
